Ariana Grande performed a seven-song medley while clad in her ‘favorite thing’ she’s ‘ever worn’ at the annual Costume Institute benefit celebrating the ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion’ exhibit inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Midtown Manhattan on Monday.

The platinum-blonde pop star – turning 31 next month – dramatically entered the room perched on the back of one of her 30 back-up dancers as she sang Sammy Fain and George Bruns’ song Once Upon a Dream from Disney’s 1959 animated film Sleeping Beauty.

Ariana began her set wearing bespoke Maison Margiela Artisanal designed by creative director John Galliano, which consisted of a white frilly top and a massive hoop skirt.

Grande (born Butera) was then carefully lifted out of her shell by two dancers to reveal a gorgeous green tulle dress and custom hand-painted Tabis by Christian Louboutin.

The two-time Grammy winner’s nude bodysuit and cincher were visible beneath the gossamer fabric draped with rosettes, hand-sprayed gold dust, and crystal/mirror embroideries.

‘So here is the thing: I am the biggest Margiela and John Galliano fan on the planet, so when I heard that there was a chance that John was going to be designing my costume, I wept. When I saw the sketch, I wept. When I tried it on, I wept. The whole thing has been quite a lot,’ Ariana gushed to Vogue on Monday.

‘I’ve never felt more beautiful or more “me” in a performance look than I did in this one. I felt like a Margiela fairy from John’s own planet, which is something I have dreamt of being for years. It is my favorite thing I’ve ever worn, and I’d like to never take it off. I mean it – they will have to try their very best to pry it off of me.’

Hairstylist Alyx Liu fastened Grande’s signature massive faux-nytail for the performance that included her 2016 track Into You and her 2019 track Seven Rings as well as her new singles The Boy Is Mine, We Can’t Be Friends, and Yes, And.

Make-up artist Michael Anthony fully contoured the R.E.M. Beauty founder’s complexion and fastened custom petal wing appliqués to her temples.

For the grand finale, Ariana showcased her four-octave soprano pipes alongside her Wicked castmate Cynthia Erivo, who joined her to perform their rendition of Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston’s 1998 duet When You Believe.

Grande and the British 37-year-old sang in front of the Temple of Dendur and they were accompanied by the 40-person choir Broadway Inspirational Voices.

In a role reversal from their witchy characters Glinda Upland and Elphaba Thropp, the former Nickelodeon child star wore green and Cynthia wore a red-and-white Thom Browne dress that appeared pink from a distance.

‘Thank you to the divine and magical @cynthiaerivo for joining me in the end and for lighting up the museum brighter than any star in the sky ever could,’ Ariana – who boasts 510.6M social media followers – later wrote on Instagram.
