Taylor Swift’s album releases are not just musical events, but cultural phenomena that spread across the world. Nowhere is this more evident than on TikTok, where her latest releases, like the re-recorded “Red” (Taylor’s Version) and the new Midnights album, spark all sorts of trends on the platform.

Taylor Swift asked her fans to take on the Anti-Hero challenge, and they’re following her lead. She has collaborated with YouTube Shorts to launch the #TSAntiHeroChallenge and celebrate the release of her latest album Midnights, where “Anti-Hero” is the lead single. Midnights is still at the top of the charts and “Anti-Hero” is now a TikTok trend.

The third track of the album delves into the insecurities that Taylor Swift, like many of us, experiences. Following its release, the chorus lyrics, “It’s me, hi, I’m the problem, it’s me,” have become a sing-along anthem for listeners who either admit their faults or provide hilariously relatable reasons why they relate to the song.

Anti-Hero resonates deeply with its listeners with words like, “I’ll stare directly at the sun, but never in the mirror / It must be exhausting always rooting for the anti-hero.”

Midnights’ second single urges its audience to accept themselves despite any criticism they might encounter. The track is incredibly relatable to most Swifties, who are now embracing self-love and radiating confidence. Among the examples, Swifties are revealing that their husband is broke because they can’t stop spending money or that they chose to stay single because they have trust issues.

TikToker, Hannah Rose, explained why the challenge was a great idea, saying, “As a professional at overthinking myself, I really wanted to create my own version. What I love about the music video is how, despite dealing with a deeply sad topic, it has light-hearted, comedic elements that almost make you see how irrational and silly thinking so harshly of yourself is.”

Penn Badgley from Gossip Girl rose to the challenge as well. He recreated a scene from Taylor’s video where she’s running from ghosts and meets herself, saying, “It’s me, hi, I’m the problem it’s me.” In his version, he opens the door to himself wearing a baseball cap, maybe as a reference to his You character Joe Goldberg. Reese Witherspoon also uploaded her own video with the track.
