So long, Met Gala! The biggest night in fashion has come and gone, and Taylor Swift is still nowhere to be found.
Her absence is unsurprising, given that the superstar is still in the midst of her sold-out Eras Tour. Starting Thursday, Swift will play four consecutive shows at Paris’s La Défense Arena before heading to Sweden the week after. Factoring in these performances, rehearsals, and travel time, it’s likely that Swift just couldn’t fit the Met Gala into her busy schedule.
And even outside of the Eras Tour, Swift hasn’t attended a Met Gala since 2016, when she co-chaired the event alongside Idris Elba. At the time, she paid homage to the year’s “Manus x Machina” dress code in a bejeweled metallic minidress designed by Louis Vuitton, which featured waist cutouts and a tiered ruffled skirt.
Prior to tonight, different sources made different claims about Swift’s RSVP status for the gala. While an insider at Page Six allegedly confirmed the singer’s attendance ahead of the event, another source denied the rumors to People. Instead, the latter outlet reported, Swift would be focusing her attention on “rehearsals and tour prep” before she embarks on the Paris leg of her tour.
“I’ve always had fun doing this. I can’t believe I get to do music as a career. That’s crazy,” Swift said at the premiere of the Eras Tour concert film last October, per Billboard. “I’ve always had so much fun doing it. I’ve never had this much fun in my life as I have had on the Eras Tour. It is far and away just the most electric experience of my life.”
