Giraffes are lions’ favorite prey in the wild, but not every hunt has the expected results.

The video recording the clash between a mother giraffe and a group of lions was recorded by a tourist while visiting the Shamwari Game Reserve, South Africa.

While foraging for food, a giraffe and her mother had an unwanted encounter with a group of lions, and the baby giraffe became the target of attack by the hungry lions.

Faced with a siege from all sides by a herd of lions, the mother deer tried to fight off the predator to protect her baby. However, while the mother deer ran away to chase away a lion, another lion immediately rushed to attack the baby giraffe.

The lion rushed forward and aimed for the neck to knock the baby deer to the ground. Luckily, the mother deer returned in time to rescue her baby from danger.

Some animals also tried to approach from behind but had to give up because they were almost hit by the giraffe’s rear kick.

Giraffes (scientific name Giraffa) are a genus of herbivorous mammals belonging to the even-hoofed order. They are the tallest animals on land, taller than elephants, and are also the largest ruminants. Male deer can reach a height of more than 5 meters and weigh up to 1,300 kg.

The long neck is both a feeding tool and a self-defense weapon for deer because it allows them to observe enemies from afar. Not only possessing physical advantages, giraffes seem to be able to run at quite high speeds when chased by predators.

However, giraffes are considered one of the most gentle species on the African grassland, and very rarely actively attack other animals.

Giraffes usually live in savanna grasslands or open forests. Their main food source is acacia leaves at altitudes that most other herbivores cannot reach.
