Exclusive | Fernando Morientes felt he was “worst version” of himself at Liverpool

In an exclusive interview with Get Football thanks to BoyleSports, who offer the latest Euro 2024 betting, Fernando Morientes admitted he struggled during his time at Liverpool and looked back at it with “sadness”.Morientes said: “It was a very brief stage, just a year and a half, two years. And I do remember it with a little bit of sadness because I don’t think I was at my best level….. I was probably the worst version of myself there.”The Spaniard came to England in 2004 after a strong period at Real Madrid and was keen to establish himself as one of the best strikers in the world. He made 41 Premier League appearances in a 16 month spell at the club but only managed eight goals.Explaining the reasons for his underwhelming time on Merseyside, Morientes said: “The most difficult aspect for me personally was day-to-day life in England. The culture, the language, were all difficult factors for me. And if I didn’t start games or didn’t score it was killing me slowly, I think all those elements impacted my football.”Morientes went on to say how proud he was to represent the club and that they can look to the future with hope: “A new phase for the club can so easily go well or go wrong, but as a good coach with character and experience (Arne Slot) I hope he will last a long time.”Japtej Ghura | Get Football
