British television star Paul Danan, who starred in the U.K. soap Hollyoaks and went on to appear on reality TV shows Celebrity Love Island and Celebrity Big Brother, has died at the age of 46.

His reps confirmed the news on Instagram on Jan. 16, 2025, writing, “It is with heavy hearts that we share the tragic news of the passing of Paul Danan at just 46 years old. Known for his television presence, exceptional talent, and unwavering kindness, Paul was a beacon of light to so many. His untimely departure will leave irreplaceable voids in the lives of all who knew him.”

It’s unclear whether Danan was suffering from an illness at the time of his death. However, he has been open about his addiction to drugs and alcohol, and in an interview with The Sun last June, he said a vape addiction had led to respiratory failure and a week in the intensive care unit. 

“I’m upstairs puffing away on my vape then suddenly I lost my breath and collapsed,” he told the outlet. “My family called for an ambulance and started giving me CPR, then police arrived and took over before paramedics took me to hospital. I was on a machine in ICU and ended up with pneumonia. My family were warned I might not make it through the night. I’m so lucky.”

It’s unconfirmed whether drugs or alcohol played a role in Danan’s death. However, the TV personality has been open in the past about his struggle with addiction.

Appearing on The Jeremy Kyle Show in 2019, he revealed that he’d been to rehab 17 times. “They’ve saved my life many times but it’s maintenance, and it’s about sustaining that recovery and not putting anything before that recovery—even my little boy, who I love to death,” he said, referring to his now 8-year-old son Deniro

Despite relapsing many times, Danan said in the interview that he’d “never stop trying” to stay sober.
