Editor’s note: Follow Ohio State vs. Notre Dame live updates, scores and highlights from the national championship game.
There’s one last game of the 2024 college football season, with a national champion soon to be crowned.
No. 7 Notre Dame and No. 8 Ohio State face off for the national title on Monday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, home of the SEC championship game, Peach Bowl and NFL’s Atlanta Falcons.
The 7-seed Fighting Irish (14-1) reached this stage of the season with impressive victories in their last three games. They defeated No. 10 Indiana 27-17 at home in the opening round of the College Football Playoff before downing No. 2 Georgia in the Sugar Bowl quarterfinal game in New Orleans. Notre Dame punched its ticket to the CFP championship with a 27-24 victory over No. 6 Penn State in the Orange Bowl semifinal.

Meanwhile, the Buckeyes (13-2), who fell to archrival Michigan in the regular season finale, have plowed through the CFP, with double-digit wins over No. 9 Tennessee, No. 1 Oregon and No. 5 Texas thus far.
A win by Ohio State on Monday would mark not only the Buckeyes’ first national championship since the 2014 college football season, but also the first of the Ryan Day era — perhaps alleviating some angst surrounding Day’s 1-4 record against the Wolverines. The Fighting Irish, meanwhile, are playing in their first title game since the 2013 BCS championship, and looking for the first national title since the 1988 season.

Here are predictions for the game:
- Joey Kaufman, Columbus Post Dispatch: “It’s hard not to take Ohio State. I like the Buckeyes by two scores. Too many weapons on offense, especially at wide receiver. The defense isn’t yielding much at all. Feels like the team is on a mission. But the Irish held them to 17 and 21 points in their last two meetings, so it won’t be easy to move the ball.“
- Mike Berardino, South Bend Tribune: “I’m picking Notre Dame 33-27 in double overtime. As Riley Leonard says, culture wins.“
- Matt Hayes, USA TODAY Network: “Ohio State, but after what Notre Dame has produced in the playoff — winning games with a stout defense and smart football — I wouldn’t be shocked in the least if the Irish won.“
