LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — Liberty University started off its Friday morning in the dark morning hours by getting 1,000 students on buses heading for Washington D.C.

The 20 buses departed the campus just after 5:30, starting the three-hour drive to the nation’s capital.

The annual “Pro-Life March” is the largest anti-abortion demonstration in the United States and a long-held tradition for Liberty.

Josie Huyard, the Vice President of the Freedom Center Society at LU, said it’s a crucial part of the “fight for life.”

Abortion has become extremely normalized and that is extremely wrong,” Huyard explained. “Abortion is murder. And I think that’s why it’s super important for citizens to speak out because it is wrong. And morality has become so twisted in society. And so that’s why we need to speak out.”

The “March for Life” has taken place annually in D.C. since 1974, the year after the landmark Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision made abortion legal at the federal level.

“Even after the decision was overturned almost three years ago, the demonstration has continued to be a powerful support for the sanctity of life,” according to LU.

President Donald Trump is expected to deliver a video message to those in attendance for the march.

Meanwhile, Vice-President JD Vance will be this year’s keynote speaker delivering the main message for those before they march.
