Warriors hold on for much-needed win in battle vs. Timberwolves

Before closing the chapter on a four-game road streak, the Golden State Warriors had a stop in Minnesota for a contest against the Timberwolves on Wednesday night. With the chance to end their road swing on a high-note, the Warriors blitzed the Timberwolves to start the game, burning a flurry of 3-pointers on the way to a double-digit lead in the opening quarter.

The Warriors drilled eight 3-pointers in the opening frame to jump out to a 34-12 lead over the Timberwolves through the first 12 minutes. Despite holding a 22-point lead in the first quarter, the game was far from over.

After struggling to close throughout the season, the Warriors’ late-game issues crept up in the second half against the Timberwolves. Behind Anthony Edwards and former Warrior Donte DiVincenzo, the Timberwolves roared back into the game.

With one minute remaining, the Timberwolves tied the game on a pair of Naz Reid free throws. After the Timberwolves evened the game, Steph Curry came to the rescue in heroic fashion.

With 47 seconds remaining, Curry buried a clutch 3-pointer to give the Warriors a three point lead. Tough defense and free throws from Curry, Andrew Wiggins and Gary Payton II helped the Warriors secured a much-needed win in Minnesota, 116-115.

Curry led the Warriors with a game-high 31 points on 10-of-21 shooting from the field with seven 3-pointers to go along with eight assists in 37 minutes. Edwards and DiVincenzo each tallied 28 points but it wasn’t enough to pull off the comeback against the Warriors.

Following a 2-2 road swing, the Warriors will get two days off before returning home to Chase Center on Saturday for a contest against Jordan Poole and the Washington Wizards.
