In a recent interview on the Rest is Football podcast with former English player Gary Lineker, Virgil van Dijk did not hesitate to name Cristiano Ronaldo when mentioning the most difficult strikers to ever face. On the other hand, the Dutch player mentioned Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland, Sergio Aguero and Olivier Giroud as the names he feels most bored when facing.

“I can say Erling Haaland is a very difficult opponent, he is very strong, a modern striker. If you are a little negligent, Haaland will punish you immediately. Same with Aguero. I played against Aguero when I was at Southampton. He can shoot with both feet very well,” Van Dijk shared. When it came to choosing Giroud, Van Dijk explained that the reason he appreciated the former Arsenal and Chelsea striker was because of his smart and wise playing style.

“With Messi, there is not much to say, he is the best striker and deserves respect from all of us,” Van Dijk emphasized.
