One American singer has more followers on Instagram than Ed Sheeran, Beyoncé, Elton John and Madonna combined — and it’s not who you’re thinking of.
It’s Selena Gomez, known largely to millennials for chart-topping pop music and launching a hugely popular make-up brand called Rare Beauty. The singer, actress and businesswoman has become the first woman to reach 400 million followers on Instagram, the photo-based social media platform used as a key marker of a brand’s success.
She is third on Instagram overall, behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, after dethroning the US socialite Kylie Jenner. The app InsTrack predicts she will overtake Messi’s 445 million followers by September.
