UFO / New Obsession Remaster Includes New Cleveland Show Mix

The classic 1978 UFO album Obsession has been newly remastered from the original production tape transfers at AIR Mastering and will be reissued on stunning 3LP tri-fold sleeve 180gm vinyl and 2CD Digipak formats on 22 November 2024. also included is a 2024 mix of the UFO Live At The Agora Ballroom, Cleveland show recorded on 16 October 1978.

The Cleveland show, which originally featured within the classic Strangers In The Night live album, has a new mix by engineer Brian Kehew from the original multi-track tapes, giving it the best sonic outing to date.

“Our new mix of the Cleveland show is definitely a bit more aggressive than the original Strangers LP,” Kehew said, “sounding more like a front-row seat than Row 50 position.”

The CD version features four bonus tracks, including a previously unreleased alternative version of Cherry as well as two studio tracks recorded at The Record Plant for the Strangers In The Night live album in the months following the Obsession release.

Both formats feature new liner notes by Michael Hann featuring interviews with Phil Mogg, Andy Parker and Michael Schenker.

“We just liked to play together,” Andy Parker said. “For me, that’s where the fun came from, and the inspiration, everything.”

Obsession was the last album to feature Michael Schenker until his return to the band in the ’90s. Produced by Led Zeppelin / Physical Graffiti engineer Ron Nevison, it was the band’s seventh record and one of their most interesting musically.

“Obsession was more of a rocking album,” Michael Schenker said. “We wanted it to have something like a John Bonham drum sound.”

With the writing partnership of Mogg and Schenker in fine form, these recordings feel more atmospheric and darker than previous outings.
