WASHINGTON (TNND) — While President Donald Trump was signing the Laken Riley Act, he said that he would be opening a detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to hold illegal immigrants living in the United States that cannot be deported back to their home country.

This detention center will hold up to 30,000 migrants.

“We’re going to send them out to Guantanamo,” Trump said during the signing in the White House East Room.

The Laken Riley Act is the first law Trump has signed for his new administration.

Guantanamo Bay has been used to house detainees from the U.S. war on terrorism.

During the Biden Administration, Guantanamo Bay got down to just 15 detainees after 11 were transferred out and sent to Oman, a long-time U.S. ally in the Middle East.

In 2009, President Barack Obama promised to close the prison and signed an Executive Order as soon as he took office.
