Tom Holland’s “difficult” learning: From a bullied ballet dancer to a secret student at a school with 8 Nobel Prize-winning scientists

Few people know that Spider-Man Tom Holland used to be a ballet dancer and was even severely bullied at school when he was 10 years old.

Thomas Stanley “Tom” Holland  was born on June 1, 1996, the eldest of three brothers in an artistic family in London, England.  In 2016, after appearing in the movie Captain America: Civil War, Tom Holland officially brought Spider-Man back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe .

With his young age and career, and his artistic path before Spider-Man had not been noticed by the public, Tom Holland brought to the audience many questions about the person behind the legendary red and blue suit. Three years later, Tom Holland once again caused a stir with an upgraded version of Spider -Man in ” Spiderman: Far from Home”.

To achieve the success he has today, few people know that Tom Holland has gone through many difficulties. Studying dance when he was not yet 10 years old, Tom Holland shared with People that he often became the target of ridicule from his peers for studying choreography. But the actor also said: ” They were not strong enough to stop me from pursuing the path of becoming a dancer .”

Thanks to his resilience and the time he was teased at school, he was able to quickly empathize with the character of Peter Parker.  At the age of 12, after months of vocal and dance training, Tom Holland made his first appearance on stage in Billy Elliot the Musical (2008).

His ballet skills and gymnastics experience while coaching the musical Billy Elliot from 2006 to 2008 helped Tom a lot. Kevin Feige – CEO of Marvel also admitted that Tom’s flexibility and agility gave him an advantage over other candidates: ” He can do some of Spider-Man’s moves better than a stuntman .”

In December 2012, Tom Holland was transferred to the BRIT School of Performing Arts and Technology. The BRIT School of Performing Arts in Croydon, England is considered a school that operates partly from the  Brit Awards fund . This school has a rich artistic tradition and has trained some of the best female vocalists in the UK such as Katie Melua, Amy Winehouse, Leona Lewis, Adele, Jessie J, Kate Nash and Katie B. Therefore, the BRIT School is considered a training ground for promising talents.

There is a funny story about Tom Holland’s “education” when he spent some time disguised and attending an American high school to prepare for the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man.  Tom Holland is originally from England, so he came up with the idea of sending Marvel to an American school to experience the feeling, to prepare for the role of Peter. Unfortunately, Marvel did not understand that it was a joke, thought he really wanted to go to school and sent him to the Bronx High School of Science.

But Bronx High School of Science is not your average high school. It is consistently ranked among the top high schools in New York, and students compete for points to get in. Its alumni list is so notable that it has its own Wikipedia page, and includes eight Nobel Prize winners, famed astronomer Neil DeGrasse Tyson, and Iron Man and Elf director Jon Favreau.

One day, when Tom Holland was asked by his teacher to stand in front of the class and speak because he was a new student, he could only answer: ” I don’t understand what you are talking about “, because Holland was not as smart as the students in this school to be able to explain questions related to the knowledge he was learning.

Tom Holland is the hottest name on screen right now.
