The day Messi reunites with Barcelona is not far away

Inter Miami have not ruled out the possibility of bringing Lionel Messi back to Barcelona for his first match at the newly renovated Camp Nou stadium.

Barcelona are in the process of refurbishing their iconic home stadium. There are proposals that matches could be played at the venue, with reduced capacity, when work is completed from December 2024.

If that opportunity opens up, then Inter Miami will no longer have to worry about MLS as the US season is over. Barcelona, on the other hand, will then be in the middle of their 2024/25 season, but an intriguing friendly against Inter Miami could be arranged.

When asked why the match between Inter Miami and Barca has not been held since Messi, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Luis Suarez joined the Chase team, Xavier Asensi – Inter Miami’s executive chairman told Mundo Deportivo :

“The problem is timing. The games at the end of this year will be part of the tour that we can prepare for. Because the whole team has played in the Leagues Cup, there is no possibility of playing a friendly. In January or December, we cannot know if it fits into the schedule.”

Asked about bringing Messi to Camp Nou for the re-inauguration of the stadium where El Pulga played at the top level for 17 years, he added: “It depends on the moment… Let’s talk and wait about that.”

Messi has scored 672 goals for Barcelona in 778 appearances, helping the Camp Nou side win 10 La Liga titles and four Champions League titles. The 1987-born legend then moved to Paris Saint-Germain in 2021, before joining Inter Miami two years later.

The owner of 8 Golden Balls is currently resting and recovering from Copa America 2024. He has missed a few recent matches for Inter Miami and is expected to return to play next month.
