Texans surprisingly fire coach the Jets might have interest in

The Houston Texans have made a change to their coaching staff that might catch some attention at One Jets Drive.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Houston has decided to move on from offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik. The surprising update was reported on Friday:

A Houston shakeup: Bobby Slowik is out as the Texans’ offensive coordinator, per sources. In the span of one year, Slowik went from being a hot head coaching candidate to now looking for work.

Slowik, 37, spent the past two years in his OC role with the Texans.

Houston’s offense took a step back in 2024, however, Slowik oversaw the emergence of quarterback CJ Stroud.

Now onto why it might matter in New York.

In the past, Slowik has previously been considered a finalist for head coaching opportunities with the Washington Commanders and Atlanta Falcons.

More recently, he had an interview with the Jets when the team was searching for their next bench boss this offseason.

Slowik did not get the job as Aaron Glenn has since been hired. Even so, it’s worth noting that the Jets had interest in Slowik in that capacity and will currently have an opening for a new offensive coordinator on Glenn’s staff.

Slowik is a name to watch… but one big factor is worth noting: Filling out a coaching staff is done by the head coach. Glenn and Slowik’s relationship is unknown but perhaps the Jets, Glenn, and Slowik could have a conversation in the coming days.
