Supercomputer predicts Copa America champion team: How many % is Argentina ahead of Brazil?

The Argentine team is the reigning Copa America and World Cup champion , still possessing an extremely strong squad with famous player Messi and familiar teammates such as Di Maria, Cristian Romero, De Paul, Enzo Fernandez, Lautaro Martinez or Mac Allister, Nico Gonzales… The “supercomputer” predicts the possibility of successfully defending the championship at up to 43.8%.

Oddspedia’s “supercomputer” predicts, based on data extracted through a series of metrics including collecting historical match data of teams, setting up tournament models and setting up outcome simulations.

Messi and his teammates have had an impressive performance since the 2022 World Cup, losing only 1 out of 11 matches since 2023 (winning 10). Albiceleste’s only loss was against Uruguay with a score of 0-2 in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in South America in November 2023.

Therefore, it is not surprising that Argentina is highly rated to win the Copa America 2024. However, the fact that they are so far ahead of their second-placed and long-time rival, Brazil, has caused many surprises. Brazil is only predicted to have a 15.4% chance of winning the championship, far behind Argentina by 28.4%.

Selecao currently does not have the strongest squad, but still has many promising stars and talents such as Vinicius, Rodrygo, 17-year-old Endrick, strikers Raphinha, Martinelli, midfielder Bruno Guimaraes…

The Brazilian team has regained stability under the guidance of coach Dorival Junior (left cover)

CBF

The Brazilian team was underestimated due to their poor performance in 2023 when they lost 4 matches, including 3 consecutive losses at the end of the year, something that had never happened before. However, the “yellow and green” team has recovered since the beginning of 2024 with 4 unbeaten matches (2 wins, 2 draws) under the leadership of coach Dorival Junior and is regaining stability.

If there is any opponent that can prevent Argentina from successfully defending the Copa America title, it can only be Brazil. Meanwhile, the two remaining big opponents in South America, Uruguay and Colombia, are only predicted by the “supercomputer” Oddspedia to have a chance of winning the championship in 4th place with 7.6% and 7th place with only 3.2%, respectively. Most surprisingly, Mexico is ranked 3rd in the chance of winning the championship with 10.4%, the host US is ranked 5th with 4.7%.

The remaining teams in the top 10 with a chance to win the 2024 Copa America include Ecuador 3.7%, Chile 2.6%, Peru 1.9% and Canada 1.7%.

Copa America 2024 takes place in the United States starting this weekend (from June 21 to July 15), with the opening match between Argentina and Canada (at 7am on June 21) in Group A at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
