Sterling Sharpe becomes first Gamecock voted into Pro Football Hall of Fame

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – Former University of South Carolina wide receiver Sterling Sharpe was named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2025.

The news came at the NFL Honors show in New Orleans Thursday night.

Sharpe will become the first Gamecock to be inducted in Canton, Ohio to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Sharpe received the news from his younger brother, Shannon, who has already been inducted.

Sharpe finished his wide receiver career at South Carolina as the school’s all-time leading receiver with 169 catches, nearly 2,500 yards, and 17 touchdowns.

Sharpe was a two-time All-American for the Gamecocks, before becoming a first-round draft pick of the Green Bay Packers in 1988.

He was inducted into the University of South Carolina Athletics Hall of Fame in 2000, and into the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame in 2014.
