As disappointing as Team USA’s FIBA World Cup run was, there was an obvious lack of Golden State Warriors flavor, even after Steve Kerr took over as head coach.
Three Golden State players are about to join a team led by LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant, who used to play for the Warriors. This could all change in the summer. Shams Charania of The Athletic was the first to report on the “last dance” idea on Monday morning. It is sure to go down in history and may be the last thing missing from Curry’s almost-perfect record.
A few people, like Stephen Curry and Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors, maybe getting together to form Team USA in time for the 2020 Olympics.Fans of the USA wanted a more star-studded team to get back at England at the Olympics in Paris the next year. This was after their bright but not perfect team lost to England twice in a row without winning a medal.
James, who will be 39 years old when the Olympics start, is in charge of a strong team that has a lot of players who will go down in history. This includes Curry, who hasn’t won an Olympic gold medal yet, and Draymond Green, who works with Curry at Golden State and has won two gold medals.
ESPN says that another present Warriors player, Chris Paul, might be on the team. It’s not clear, though, if Paul will still be with Golden State when the Olympics start. Klay Thompson, a 33-year-old player who used to play for Team USA but is now said to be moving allegiances to the Bahamas, might not be there.
No matter how his brother isn’t there, it will be amazing to see Curry play against James, Durant, and Green on the world stage. It looks like an interesting group of some of the best players in the game’s history, even though they may be past their best by then.
Curry hasn’t played for his country in an official match since the exciting 2014 World Cup. He was 26 years old and had only played in one of his nine career All-Star games. He also hadn’t won any of his four NBA titles, two MVP awards, or the Finals MVP prize yet.
James’ Laker teammate Anthony Davis is another famous player who might go to the Olympics. He is one of three players—with Jayson Tatum and Devin Booker—who won gold medals in 2021.
