TOM, THAT DID NOT GO AS PLANNED. THAT’S RIGHT. THE ROCKET’S SIX ENGINES APPEARED TO SHUT DOWN, ONE BY ONE DURING ASCENT. THIS WAS THE RESULT. AFTER THE EXPLOSION THAT SENT THOSE STREAKS ACROSS THE SKY. TONS OF PEOPLE HAVE POSTED VIDEOS ONLINE WONDERING WHAT IT WAS IN THE MOMENT. TAKE A LISTEN. WHAT THE HECK? OH, WHAT IS THIS? NOW THE LIFTOFF WAS SUCCESSFUL, BUT AGAIN, THIS WAS THE RESULT. THE SPACECRAFT WAS A NEW AND UPGRADED MODEL MAKING ITS DEBUT. THIS VIDEO WAS SENT IN BY FORMER NEWS NINE ANCHOR CATHY FAIR. SHE IS CURRENTLY VACATIONING IN TURKS AND CAICOS. SHE SAYS INITIALLY THEY THOUGHT MAYBE IT WAS FIREWORKS OFF IN THE DISTANCE, BUT THEN IT KEPT CRAWLING ACROSS THE SKY WITH THOSE AMAZING COLORS. OH NO. IT WAS CRAZY. WE WERE STILL. I MEAN, ALL WE CAN TALK ABOUT TODAY IS THAT. AND WE WERE JUST WHEN WE BEFORE WE GOT OUT ON THIS LOVELY BOAT, THEY WERE SHOWING US SOME OF THE DEBRIS THAT HAD FALLEN DOWN. JUST LANDED RIGHT IN THE YARD OF THE MARINA. AND THEY SAID, THERE’S MORE OUT IN THE WATER. THE FAA SAYS IT HASN’T RECEIVED ANY REPORTS OF INJURIES. HOWEVER, CATHY FAIR MENTIONED THE DEBRIS. It was a surreal sight as an unmanned test rocket explosion sent a light show across the sky over the Caribbean on Thursday. The lift-off of the SpaceX rocket, which was a new and upgraded model making its debut, was successful. But the full flight didn’t go as planned. The rocket’s six engines appeared to shut down one by one during ascent. The explosion sent streaks across the sky. Before we got out on this lovely boat, they were showing us some of the debris that had fallen down. MANCHESTER, N.H. —It was a surreal sight as an unmanned test rocket explosion sent a light show across the sky over the Caribbean on Thursday.

The lift-off of the SpaceX rocket, which was a new and upgraded model making its debut, was successful. But the full flight didn’t go as planned. The rocket’s six engines appeared to shut down one by one during ascent.

The explosion sent streaks across the sky. Many people have posted video of the streaks online.

Former News 9 anchor Cathy Fair, who is currently vacationing in the Turks and Caicos, said initially she thought maybe it was fireworks off in the distance, but the explosion’s streaks kept crawling across the sky with amazing colors.

“Oh, no, it was crazy,” Fair said. “I mean, all we can talk about today is that. Before we got out on this lovely boat, they were showing us some of the debris that had fallen down. It just landed right in the yard of the marina and they said there’s more out in the water,” Fair said.

The Federal Aviation Administration has not received any reports of injuries, though onlookers have seen debris.

Regulators are looking into reports of property damage in Turks and Caicos.

Flights of the spacecraft and rocket system have also been grounded pending an investigation.
