South Korean president faces impeachment calls after martial law attempt

Protesters clashed with police outside South Korea’s National Assembly building in Seoul, where the legislative body gathered Tuesday evening local time to rebuke President Yoon Suk Yeol’s declaration of martial law.

Protests, large gatherings and political acts including meetings of the legislature are prohibited under martial law. Despite that, crowds gathered in the bitter cold outside the building after midnight. They cheered when the legislature voted to block martial law.
