Selena Gomez made her long-awaited return with a performance of new music at the American Music Awards on Sunday night, her first live television performance in two years.
While nerves showed at times, the 27-year-old opened the show with passion, performing an intense choreographed dance routine while singing her new songs Lose You to Love Me and Look at Her Now.
Just days after revealing that body shaming “ruined me,” Selena had a daring wardrobe change on stage, swapping her black dress for a tight, sparkly corset.

Her famous friends enjoyed the show, with Selena’s best friend Taylor Swift and her new best friend Halsey dancing and singing during her performance.
Earlier in the night, Selena looked confident and radiant on the red carpet.
The singer hit the red carpet at the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles, elegantly posing for selfies with fans hoping to catch a glimpse of their favorite stars.
Gomez wore a neon lime green minidress, with a pair of matching neon lime green pumps.
She wore her hair down in a bob style and had a layered diamond choker around her neck.

Following her performance, Gomez took to Instagram to share a collage of behind-the-scenes photos from the AMAs, including one that revealed a new tattoo on her thigh.
While the new ink wasn’t visible on the red carpet, it was partially seen peeking out from under her one-piece suit when she changed costumes on stage.
The tattoo featured a pair of praying hands with a rosary wrapped around them, and Gomez tagged New York City tattoo shop Bang Bang Tattoo in her post.

Her appearance came days after her appearance on the Giving Back Generation podcast, where she talked about being body-shamed.
Gomez was diagnosed with lupus in 2015, and the singer and actress revealed that she now deals with “a lot of health issues, and for me that’s when I really started to notice more body image things.”
She added that the medication she will have to take for the rest of her life was a factor in her weight fluctuations, saying: “To be honest, it even depends on the month.”
Lupus: Gomez was diagnosed with lupus in 2015, and the singer and actress revealed that she now deals with “a lot of health issues, and for me that’s when I really started to notice more body image things.”
‘So in my case, it really hit me when people started attacking me for [gaining weight]. And really, that’s just my truth. I fluctuate. It depends on what is happening in my life,” Gómez said.
Still, although he has accepted his truth, the comments of others, “it really affected me” and “That really ruined me a little.”
“I don’t mind putting myself out there in front of everyone and hearing what they have to say about it,” he added on the podcast.

Last month, Gomez released Lose You to Love Me, the lead single from her upcoming, as-yet-untitled third studio album.
Her second single, Look At Her Now, was released the following day, and Lose You to Love Me topped the singles charts earlier this month.
The new album is scheduled to be released on January 10, 2020, and she will voice Betsy in the upcoming live-action/CGI hybrid film Dolittle, which will be released in theaters on January 17, 2020.
