Is Scott Foley ghosting us?
More than two decades after playing the role of Roman Bridger in 2000’s Scream 3, Foley now returns to the franchise for Scream 7, Entertainment Weekly has learned. Plot details are being kept strictly under wraps, so it’s unclear if he’s playing the exact same character. His presence, however, is a springboard for theories.
Foley’s Roman first appeared in Scream 3 as the director of the movie within the movie, Stab 3: Return to Woodsboro, the latest installment of the Hollywood adaptations of the Woodsboro murders. Roman later revealed himself to be the half-brother of Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) through their mother, Maureen Prescott (Lynn McRee). He also served as the Ghostface killer of Scream 3 and was shot to death by Dewey (David Arquette). Even though Roman miraculously thwarted death multiple times, the last blow was a bullet to the head. Don’t see him walking away from that one.

If Foley is indeed returning as Roman, though, there is a precedent. In the fifth Scream movie, Skeet Ulrich‘s Billy Loomis returned in ghost form to haunt his daughter, Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera). Ghost Billy came back again in Scream VI. We at least know Scream 7 will focus on Sidney in a major way and address her family, including her daughter (Isabel May) and husband (Joel McHale).
Perhaps Foley could be playing Roman’s secret twin and another half-brother Sidney never knew about, or someone else entirely. We need an exhaustive Gale Weathers investigative TV special to get to the bottom of this.

Directed by Kevin Williamson and written by Guy Busick, Scream 7 is on the calendar for release on Feb. 27, 2026.
Deadline was the first to report Foley’s casting.
