Fans have heaped praise on Cody Gakpo following his impressive performance in the Netherlands’ round of 16 win over Romania.
Ronald Koeman’s side booked their place in the quarter-finals of EURO 2024 with a thumping 3-0 win at the Allianz Arena.
Gakpo opened the scoring in the 20th minute and then assisted Donyell Malen’s close-range finish. The Liverpool star’s performance came from the left flank, with Memphis Depay leading the line for the Netherlands.
The Liverpool star has sent social media into a frenzy and some fans insist the Reds must deploy him in a similar position to get the best out of him next season.
Gakpo played extremely effectively for the Netherlands.
Former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge posted on X: “Gakpo is a different player for the Netherlands . Must get the most out of him at LFC.”
One fan commented: “The man Cody Gakpo is carrying this country on his back.”

Gakpo is now the top scorer at EURO 2024 after his strike against Romania, taking his total to three goals.
