The scoring hasn’t stopped for Ronaldo. The Portuguese striker just celebrated the milestone of scoring 900 goals in international tournaments recognized by FIFA, and in the early morning of September 9, he continued to score his 901st goal.
Portugal faced Scotland at home in the second round of the 2024/2025 UEFA National League and Ronaldo was the one who saved the home team. Midfielder Scott McTominay scored in the 7th minute for Scotland. It was not until the second half that Portugal equalized 1-1 after Bruno Fernandes’ 55th-minute finish. Ronaldo scored the decisive goal in the 88th minute to bring Portugal a 2-1 victory and 3 points.
Ronaldo’s goal was quite easy when he tapped the ball into the net after an attack by the Portuguese team. Previously, in the match against Croatia, Ronaldo also scored to help Portugal win 2-1.
“Each goal has its own meaning, 2 decisive goals in 2 matches is really happy”, Ronaldo’s feelings were published by the Portuguese press. More importantly, the goal in the match against Scotland brought the striker’s scoring milestone to 901.
However, coach Roberto Martinez affirmed that Ronaldo can break all records but must look at the reality that at the age of 39, this striker will find it difficult to play continuously in close matches with high intensity. Therefore, Ronaldo was selected to start in the match against Croatia and played as a reserve in the match against Scotland.
Ronaldo said his goal is still to reach 1,000 officially recognized goals in international tournaments.
On the same day, September 9, the 2024/2025 National League recorded some notable results such as Spain beat Switzerland 4-1; Denmark beat Serbia 2-0; Croatia beat Poland 1-0.
