Ronaldo officially speaks out after saying goodbye to EURO 2024

On his personal page, superstar Cristiano Ronaldo wrote a letter, sending a message to his home fans after he and the Portuguese team were eliminated in the quarter-finals of EURO 2024 by France.

The quarter-final match between France and Portugal ended 120 minutes without a goal. In the penalty shootout, the French players showed more courage and won 5-3.

Ronaldo had a not-so-ideal EURO

In this match, Ronaldo was given many opportunities but he missed them all, especially in a favorable situation but Ronaldo shot high into the sky in extra time.

Ronaldo’s poor performance caused him to end EURO 2024 with 0 goals, equaling De Bruyne in the unforgettable record of being the striker with the most shots on target in a EURO finals without scoring (10 times).

Thus, Ronaldo’s ambition to win a second EURO championship has failed. The 39-year-old superstar could not help but feel regretful and he affirmed that Portugal deserved to continue instead of saying goodbye to the tournament in the quarter-finals.

On his personal Instagram page, Ronaldo posted a series of impressive photos of him and Portugal at EURO 2024 with an emotional caption.

CR7 wrote: “We want to go further. We deserve to go further. Really grateful for all the support you have given the team and all that we have achieved so far.”

“Both on and off the pitch, I am sure that this legacy will be honored and will continue to be built and developed together. All for the team, all for Portugal.”

CR7 and Pepe have had their last EURO in their careers

It can be seen in the above message that Ronaldo has not yet talked about his plans to leave the national team.

As of the loss to France, he had played 212 matches for the national team and scored 130 goals, a record for the player with the most appearances and most goals in the national team.

Along with the above message, it partly shows that the Portuguese striker believes that he still has many things to accomplish in the national team.

Ronaldo has yet to make a decision on his future with the national team. It is not impossible that the striker born in 1985 still wants to participate in the 2026 World Cup, when he will be 41 years old.

While CR7 may want to continue, coach Roberto Martinez could well decide that it’s time for the team to move forward without Ronaldo.
