Rihanna is only the second woman in history to be awarded the prestigious title of National Hero of Barbados.

“We hope Rihanna will continue to shine like a diamond, bringing honor and pride to our nation through her works and actions,” the prime minister said during the event.Notably, Rihanna follows in the footsteps of religious leader Sarah Ann Gill as the second woman in history to be named a National Hero of Barbados. The “Umbrella” hitmaker remarked, “This is a day I will never forget, a day I never imagined I could attain,” in reflection of receiving this honor.“Barbadians take enormous pride in who they are. I shall take this pride with me wherever I travel. “I will always be recognized as a national hero of Barbados,” Rihanna said at the country’s foundation ceremony.
