We’re just hours away from the AFC Championship Game, where the Buffalo Bills take the field against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium. This will be the fourth matchup between quarterbacks Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes, and also head coaches Sean McDermott and Andy Reid.
It’s a huge game, if that even need be said. Though there’s still another week left in the NFL, the pressure may never be greater on Allen and McDermott who, to this point, have not been able to defeat the Chiefs in the postseason, having never reached the Super Bowl as a result.
The reason today’s possible is because of Buffalo’s effort against the Baltimore Ravens in winning a home game during last weekend’s divisional round. Allen didn’t need to be Superman, and the defense showed up huge, in ways few believed possible.
So here we are, with the Bills having taken down the perceived best team in the NFL, now prepared to battle against the two-time Super Bowl champions. Can Allen and McDermott finally take down their arch rivals?
With that in mind, let’s see what Rumblings and national voters had to say about this week’s outcome based on the odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook.
We’ll of course focus on the Bills-centric polls, which includes those here via Buffalo Rumblings and ones sent to an audience of national voters. Also, we’ll take a look at the Chiefs’ poll results for the same questions.
Rumblers were asked this week how they believe the AFC Conference Championship will finish. An overwhelming majority (82%) of voters believe the Bills win outright. Coming in second was an ominous 17% of voters who believe Buffalo will lose by more than one point, while just 1% of voters said the Bills will lose by exactly one point.
How did things turn out with the same question given to Chiefs fans over at Arrowhead Pride? Unsurprisingly, they’re a the slightest bit more confident than Bills Mafia — 84% picked Kansas City to win outright.
Rumblings voters were also polled on the game’s results based on FanDuel Sportsbook’s O/U at 47.5 (odds as of publishing are O/U 48.5). Sixty-nine percent (69%) of voters sided with the over, with just 31% choosing the under.
As for the O/U results from readers over at Arrowhead Pride, voters were split right down the middle.
Turning our attention to national poll results as it relates to the odds with FanDuel Sportsbook, we look at who will cover in Bills-Chiefs. At the time, 65% of bets were in favor of the Bills to cover at +1.5, while just 35% of bets favored the Chiefs covering at -1.5.
National voters were also asked where their support lies among the four remaining NFL teams vying to hoist the Lombardi Trophy.
The Buffalo Bills lead the way, with 44% of voters claiming lifetime or temporary membership in Bills Mafia. The next closest team at 24% of votes is the Washington Commanders. Perhaps surprisingly, the Philadelphia Eagles are a distant four (11%), instead of the Kansas City Chiefs (21%). That may speak to the rest of the NFC East’s fan bases weighing in.
National voters were also asked to ranking the four quarterbacks remaining in the NFL playoffs. Once again, the Bills and quarterback Josh Allen rise to the top. Behind Allen is Patrick Mahomes, followed by Jayden Daniels, and Jalen Hurts.
