Philly weather: Snow on the way as warnings, emergencies issued across region

PHILADELPHIA – From winter weather to the NFL playoffs, Sunday is bound to be an action-packed day across the Delaware Valley!

Inches of snow are headed to the Philadelphia area just hours before Eagles fans get ready to cheer on their Birds for a potential Snow Bowl at the Linc.

What we know:

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for several counties across Pennsylvania, including Philadelphia, while South Jersey is currently in a Winter Weather Advisory.

Gov. Phil Murphy has declared a State of Emergency in New Jersey, while highways in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania have issued various highway restrictions.

The first flakes are expected to fall late Sunday morning in Delaware, heading northeast into New Jersey and Pennsylvania by lunchtime.

Snowfall predictions are higher in Pennsylvania, decreasing the closer you get to the shore.

Timeline:

An overnight frost will turn to clouds and flurries by 11 a.m. as Eagles fans gather to tailgate at Lincoln Financial Field.

Fans can expect a light snowfall by lunch, accumulating an hour or two before kickoff, then snow for the entire game!

It could be hard to see the field as intensity picks up around halftime, with heavy snow with white conditions persisting into the second half of the game.

The snow will come to an end hours after the game, first in Delaware and South Jersey around 8 p.m. and out of the entire region by 10 p.m.

However, the timeline for the shore is bit different, with rain in the afternoon turning to snow to end the storm.

Once the snow moves offshore, temperatures will plummet for the week, with overnight lows in the single digits and highs only reaching the teens or low 20s.
