Having seemingly paid no attention to the multitude of negative publicity which surrounded her performance at MTV’s prestigious awards ceremony, the 20-year-old donned the bizarre outfit after she twerked, poked out her tongue and touched herself during the show.

The attention-grabbing ensemble left little to the imagination as her miniscule underpants and black leather nipple pasties were as clear as day underneath the piece of broad-netted fabric.
It’s unclear what exactly Miley was going for with this particular outfit, which she topped with a set of furry white sleeves.
The top half of her white dress looked much like a hospital-inspired neck brace, whereas her heavy black chain and leather boots and black nipple accessories seemed to spell out somewhat of a bondage theme.

At one point, she provocatively caressed the bottom of a female dwarf back up dancer in a move clearly designed to shock.

The star was recently forced to defend herself after she was slammed by critics for her antics with a foam finger alongside Robin Thicke onstage at last month’s VMAs.

‘You know now… you know what’s happened. Madonna’s done it, Britney’s done it,’ she told MTV in a sit down chat. ‘Every VMA performance, anyone that performs…that’s what you are looking for.
‘You wanting to make history. Me and Robin the whole time said “You know you are about to make history right now?’
And the star was adamant that the bad publicity had not affected her.
‘I don’t pay attention to the negative because I have seen this play out,’ she said. ‘How many times have we seen this play out in pop music?’

The publicity surrounding the performance appears to have done MIley no harm – her latest single Wrecking Ball recently hit the number one spot on the Billboard charts.

However, the distasteful display was said to be the ‘final nail in the coffin’ in the on-off relationship between Miley and Liam Hemsworth.
It has been claimed that Liam had been left ‘mortified’ by Miley’s now infamous performance.
A source told RadarOnline.com: ‘Miley and Liam were already pretty much broken up at that point, but when he saw her performance and the backlash it created, it was the nail in the coffin.
‘That was all he needed to finally break up with Miley once and for all. He was embarrassed, disgusted and mortified by her performance.’
On Monday, representatives for Miley and Liam confirmed that the pair have ended their engagement and their romance, after having dated for two years.
Liam proposed to Miley with a 3.5 carat Neil Lane engagement ring in May 2012, and at the time the Hannah Montana star gushedaout her future with the hunky Aussie star.
‘I’m so happy to be engaged and look forward to a life of happiness with Liam,’ she told People magazine at the time.
The pair first met on the set of the 2010 romantic drama The Last Song, and began dating not long after.
But in the last year, they have seemingly struggled with their relationship, breaking up and getting back together several times as each one continues in different directions of their careers.
