Messi wants a daughter

Superstar Lionel Messi revealed his desire to have a daughter after he and his wife already have three sons in an interview with Olga TV on September 20.

The 2022 World Cup winner opened up about his life with his wife and three children, his plans after retirement and his feelings at PSG in a conversation with streamer Migue Granados on Olga. “We want another baby, it would be great if it was a girl. My wife and I haven’t started planning for a baby yet but let’s see if the little princess comes,” Messi shared.

The striker born in 1987 is known to be a private person, spending most of his time with his family after each training session and match, rarely going out to party and have fun outside of his time on the pitch. Messi considers himself a good father and tries to pass on to his children the life values he was taught when he was young. The father of three said: “I am a good father because my parents were also good parents. Pursuing the values where I grew up is also very important.”

Messi said he admires his wife Antonela, praising her as a great wife and mother who takes care of their three children while her husband is often away from home. “Thiago is quite shy, he likes it more when he is with his mother. Maybe that’s when Thiago feels confident to share because Antonela is with them all day. Mateo can talk non-stop while Ciro seems to be more quiet,” Messi said about his three sons’ personalities.

The Argentine superstar also revealed his daily life in Miami, USA, where he and his family started living since July. “My wife, I and the kids wake up at 7am then have breakfast. The kids like toast, chocolate, milk. Sometimes I take the kids to school. Then I go to practice with my teammates. At noon I go home with Antonela, rest, then pick up the kids in the afternoon and practice again,” Messi said.

Talking about his career, Messi said he enjoyed football after leaving Europe. The owner of 7 Golden Balls confided that he has not thought about retiring and does not want to think about it, but expressed his desire to continue to be involved in football in a new role such as Sports Director. Messi’s next goal is Copa America 2024, which will also take place in the US where he is playing. Messi said the 2026 World Cup is still far away so he has not considered it.

Referring to his time at PSG two years ago, Messi said he had the unpleasant experience of being the only world champion not recognised by his club, and of being protested by a section of French fans in his final months in Paris. The 36-year-old striker said he and former PSG teammate Kylian Mbappe had a good relationship.

In the summer of 2023, Messi ended two decades of glorious football in Europe when he left PSG for Inter Miami – the team of co-owner and President David Beckham. Over the past 20 years, he has been honored as a Barca legend, one of the greatest players in football, winning all the most prestigious individual and collective titles both at club and national team. The superstar born in 1997 also created a fever in the US when he continuously scored and assisted, contributing greatly to helping Inter Miami win the first Cup in history, improving his position on the MLS rankings.
