On his personal page on the evening of April 1, Messi posted a video taken by his wife Antonella of him and his youngest son Ciro working out in the family gym. The two-year-old boy with adorable curly hair did 10 sit-ups while his father stood next to him counting. After finishing the exercise, Ciro stood up and said: “Now it’s your turn, Dad.” The Barca superstar showed his son the correct way to do the exercise, and after only 4 sit-ups, the boy ran to his father and high-fived him. The video attracted 7.3 million “likes” in less than a day.
Like most of his colleagues around the world, Messi and his family are staying at home, practicing social distancing to prevent the spread of Covid-19. On his personal page last week, the 32-year-old striker posted a photo of his three sons Thiago, Mateo and Ciro reading a book before bedtime along with a message calling on fans to stay home and limit going out amid the increasingly frightening epidemic situation.

Messi posted on social media over the weekend that he and his teammates had agreed to take a 70% pay cut to help the club. The Argentine superstar denied rumors that he had refused to take a pay cut. “Someone wants to put public opinion on us, to pressure us into doing things that we will obviously do. We are also looking for ways to help the club and its staff during this difficult time,” he wrote. It is estimated that Messi has lost more than $100 million due to the pandemic.
Spain has declared a national emergency since March 14. The country is currently ranked third in the world in terms of the number of nCoV infections with more than 110,000 people and more than 10,000 deaths. The US is still the country with the most Covid-19 patients with more than 215,000 people, followed by Italy, only nearly 350 more cases than Spain.
