Lionel Messi’s wife and three sons were with the Argentine superstar at the Qatar stadium to celebrate the historic moment he and his teammates lifted the 2022 World Cup trophy.
The Argentine football team won the first World Cup trophy since 1986 after an emotional final against France on the evening of December 18. Messi celebrated his first World Cup trophy with his wife and three sons, the people who mean the most to him. The 2022 World Cup is Messi’s fifth time participating in the biggest tournament on the planet, held every four years.
The two sons hugged a smiling Messi right on the stadium, this sweet moment was caught on camera. Messi’s sons wore the Argentina national team jersey with the number 10 and their father’s name on the back.

Before the final, Messi’s 10-year-old son Thiago wrote the lyrics to “Muchachos Ahora Nos Volvimos a Ilusionar” to support his father. Messi’s wife Antonela Roccuzzo shared her son’s adorable gesture on Instagram. This is considered Argentina’s unofficial World Cup anthem, with fans of the South American national football team often humming it during matches.
After Argentina’s win over France, Roccuzzo congratulated her husband in two emotional posts on Instagram. The first post featured several photos taken after the match, with family members taking turns posing with the trophy. In the second post, she shared a photo of Messi kissing the trophy, captioned “My champion.”
In a 2019 interview, Messi shared about his family: “You grow and learn. You gain experience from every aspect of life, on and off the pitch. But, as a person, having three children has changed my perspective on life, my way of thinking and it has also helped me mature. Although there is very little time to rest at home with our three sons, Antonela and I try to enjoy every second with them, whether it is watching TV, playing or whatever. We like to be at home and enjoy these moments.”
After adding a new title to his career, Messi announced that he had changed his mind and would continue playing after the World Cup. Previously, in October, Messi said that the 2022 World Cup would be his last time participating in the world’s biggest football championship.
