The sisters were born to a Dominican father and a Trinidadian mother, Carlos and Clara Almánzar, per People. Hennessy, 28, was born three years after Cardi B, the magazine adds.

According to Britannica, the sisters were born and raised in the Bronx in New York. Hennessy’s real name and Cardi B’s nickname were both inspired by alcohol brands. Although Cardi was born Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, she explained on X how she got the moniker “Cardi B”. “My name is Belcalis, Growing up people called me Bacardi cause my sister name is Hennessy. FYI,” she wrote.

While Cardi B is a household name these days, her sister has been in the spotlight for various reasons too. Besides boasting over eight million followers as a social media personality on Instagram, Hennessy Carolina is also a reality TV star and fashion designer, per People.
She appeared in Love & Hip Hop: New York, and has been in shows such as MTV’s The Challenge and Hip Hop Squares. When it comes to clothing design, Hennessy Carolina did a collaboration with Boohoo in 2018.
“Working with Boohoo was amazing!” she said of the pairing, according to BET. “I love that I could partner with a brand that represents forward fashion, that stays on trend, and that’s super affordable.”
Then in 2019 she scored a campaign with Moschino, notes People. “I want to dominate the fashion industry and I would eventually like to get into the make-up industry,” she told Galore in 2019.

Carolina is an outspoken advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. In a previous interview with Galore, she opened up about how she came out to her family when she was 20 years old. “My parents weren’t happy about it, but I needed them to understand my life and my love and happiness,” she told the outlet. “So, I sat them down multiple times and gave them the talk till they finally listened and understood that there was nothing wrong with being a lesbian.”
