Lisandro Martinez branded Toby Collyer a ‘big example for the young generation’ following our win against Fulham on Sunday evening.

The Academy graduate made his senior debut for Manchester United this season and his performance continues to prove his right to play alongside the first-team players.

Martinez appraised the 21-year-old to journalists in an interview following the final whistle.

“Why I’m so happy is because of this guy [Toby Collyer],” the defender revealed. “This guy honestly is a big example for the young generation. I’m really happy for him because he is working so hard every day and he is so humble. He deserves it all.”

It’s an important trait for Collyer to possess as a Red and Martinez reflected post-match on just how vital it is for the team to remain humble after our 1-0 win at Craven Cottage.

“We are here and we have to show every game, like today, we have to win and we have to be also really humble after winning,” the Argentina international added.

Collyer managed to clear the ball out of United’s net with a blinding header on the goal-line, ultimately saving Ruben Amorim’s side from a draw against the Cottagers.

Speaking after the game alongside Martinez, he shared his appreciation for his team-mate’s compliments and his unquestionable pride in being part of the team.

“It’s unbelievable,” the young midfielder said. “It’s coming from a World Cup winner so I couldn’t ask for anyone better really. But yeah, like he said, I’m just working hard and it’s a tough environment.

“I think that’s good, it makes you better as a player and your character as well. I’m just thinking about improving and helping the team as much as I can.”
