Sharing on Fussball Transfers, Mainz’s sports director gave the reason why Liverpool has not yet agreed to sell Sepp van den Berg.
Sepp van den Berg is 20 years old this year, a potential defender . However, his opportunities at Liverpool are not many and he is mainly loaned out. The Dutch player has just experienced a breakthrough season in the Bundesliga with Mainz 05. Accordingly, Mainz 05 expressed their intention to buy Van den Berg outright, but so far, everything has not been completed.
Mainz 05 want Van den Berg.
Speaking to German outlet Fussball Transfers, Mainz sporting director Christian Heidel said: “ We are waiting. We have been in contact with Liverpool many times.
When Liverpool start training, there won’t be any centre-backs available because they’re all at the Euros and Copa America. Then they want to observe and take their time to assess the situation.”
Mainz 05 have made no secret of their desire to buy Van den Berg outright, but Liverpool’s asking price of £20 million is a major obstacle. In the near future, the versatile defender will have the opportunity to show his talent against Arne Slot when Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez are absent due to EURO 2024.
