Here’s our roundup of all the latest Liverpool transfer news today (Tuesday September 10) as Caoimhin Kelleher speaks on his future at Liverpool.
Anthony Gordon sends tantalising message
After missing a chance created by a RIDICULOUS ball played in by Trent Alexander-Arnold on Saturday, Anthony Gordon has apologised, saying ‘I owe him one’.
The two England internationals played in their respective positions against the Republic of Ireland and seem to have developed a connection on the pitch.
Back in the right-back position for England for the first time in four years, Trent produced a masterclass, with two big chances created and ten long balls completed.
On a brief foray into midfield, inverting as Declan Rice and Kobbie Mainoo pushed forward, Trent delivered a phenomenal pass to split the Irish centre-halves, but Gordon was unable to convert the chance.
In his post-match interview with ITV Sport, Gordon said: “I should have scored so I’ve still got a lot to work on.
“I owe Trent one for that pass… I’ll make up for that.”
Across the past three years, Liverpool have been searching for a new target to strengthen the base of their midfield.
Since Brazilian international Fabinho left for Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia last year, the Reds have focused their efforts on bolstering their midfield, but have so far been unsuccessful, with stop-gap Wataro Endo ill-favoured by Arne Slot and Ryan Gravenberch temporarily filling in.
Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia opted for Chelsea last year, Martin Zubimendi declined the club’s interest this summer in favour of his boyhood club Real Sociedad.
However, Football Insider is now reporting that the club could be set to make a move for Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton in January.
Van Dijk speaks out
Liverpool’s perfect start under Arne Slot this season has had a dark cloud looming above it, and that’s due to the uncertain futures of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
A week on from Salah’s media blitz in the aftermath of the Reds’ 3-0 victory over rivals Manchester United, it was Van Dijk’s turn to address the hot topic of his future when speaking to the media.
The club captain, who has nine months left on his current deal on Merseyside, has attracted a lot of interest from Saudi Arabia during the summer.
The 33 year-old can open negotiations with foreign clubs in January as pressure continues to mount on FSG’s football CEO, Michael Edwards, and Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes to secure the Dutchman’s services for the coming seasons.
Van Dijk has outlined his wish to play in another World Cup and given the fury between Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman and Steven Bergwijn over the winger’s move to Saudi, it seems the centre-back will have to stay in Europe for his wish to come to fruition
PL icon makes Salah prediction
Premier League Hall of Famer Ian Wright has given his verdict on Mohamed Salah’s contract situation at Liverpool.
Despite being one of the Premier League’s greatest players, Mohamed Salah is now in a position where he could leave English football for free at the end of this season if he wishes as his Liverpool contract expires in less than a year.
Following Liverpool’s recent 3-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford the Egyptian King shocked some supporters by plainly stating that this may well be his final season at the club.
Reports have since followed that claim negotiations are set to start in the coming weeks in order to resolve Salah’s contract issue but his future at Anfield has never been more uncertain.
Now Premier League icon Ian Wright has weighed in with his opinion on Salah’s future.
Kelleher’s fury over Mamardashvili signing
Caoimhin Kelleher has hit out at Liverpool’s decision to bring another goalkeeper to the club.
Speaking to the media on international duty for the Republic of Ireland, the shot-stopper cut a dejected figure when pressed by the media on his future.
“I’ve made it clear in the last few years that I want to go and be a number one, play week in week out,” he answered.
