Liverpool FC News Today: Midfielder Injury Worry, ‘Important Player’ Close To Return, One More Signing Still Possible?

Here is all the latest Liverpool news from Friday 6 September, including injury worries in midfield, the possibility of making another signing – after the window has shut – and Premier League award nominations for an Anfield duo.

Mac Allister suffers new injury after excelling for Argentina

Alexis Mac Allister was rumoured to be a doubt for Argentina’s World Cup qualifiers, with news spreading that he had suffered an injury which was causing him discomfort and keeping him out of his side’s preparation sessions.

This news would have worried Reds fans greatly, with Liverpool’s number 10 being such a key player for Arne Slot. However, the fears were quelled when Mac Allister posted a photo of himself back in training, looking sharp and ready for battle, on Instagram.

The midfielder went on to show exactly how important his presence is, scoring the opener in Argentina’s triumph over Chile, with his team comfortably defeating their rivals 3-0.

However, not everything was positive. Mac Allister was substituted in the 79th minute with a suspected knock and Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni is now unsure whether the Liverpool star will be available for the Colombia game on Tuesday.

Slot handed injury boost with ‘incredibly important’ player set to return

As the international break trundles on, Liverpool fans are eager for the return of club football next weekend. And with Nottingham Forest at Anfield next Saturday looming, Arne Slot has received a positive update regarding the fitness of one midfielder.

Arne Slot

When the Reds take on Forest, Arne will be hoping for a fully fit squad with minimal issues. Alexis Mac Allister’s potential injury against Chile and Harvey Elliott’s return to Liverpool for medical assessments could affect the Dutchman’s midfield options.

However, it looks as if the return of homegrown star Curtis Jones is on the horizon. The Liverpool Echo have reported that the midfielder is “winning the battle” to be fit for the return of the Premier League.

Liverpool could still sign ‘extraordinary’ midfielder

Liverpool could still secure a long-term midfield target despite the closure of the transfer window. However time is running out.

Its been no secret that Arne Slot had been looking to bolster his midfield this summer, losing out on Martin Zubimendi who opted to stay at boyhood club Real Sociedad.

Adrien Rabiot has been a free agent since his contract with Juventus expired at the start of July after he refused to sign a new deal. Subsequently the player has been left out of the French National Team for their UEFA Nations League fixtures.

L’Equipe linked the 29-year-old with a potential move to Liverpool, while Manchester United, a long-time admirer, reportedly backed away from their interest.

‘Special’ prospect selected for Champions League squad

Liverpool’s proud history of nurturing young talents through the academy and unleashing them into the first team looks set to continue under Arne Slot this season.

Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and current Anfield star Trent Alexander-Arnold are just some of the names that instantly spring to mind when it comes to outstanding examples from the recent past.

Following the announcement of Liverpool’s Champions League squad for the 2024/25 campaign, fans can feel excited about another youngster who is now on the fringes of the senior set-up.

Liverpool find themselves back in Europe’s elite competition this season following a one-year hiatus playing in the Europa League. Qualification for this season’s Champions League was key and a third-place finish was achieved during the 2023/24 season.

Salah nominated for Player of the Month

There’s simply no denying it. Mohamed Salah has had a blistering start to the season.

Mohamed Salah

With three goals and three assists already in the opening three games, we may be in for another special campaign from Liverpool’s number 11 who looks to be back to his very best.

Since joining Liverpool in 2017, Salah has won multiple individual awards, including PFA Player of the Year, as well as the club’s Player of the Season four times. On top of this, his 157 Premier League goals so far have earned him three Golden Boots. Let’s hope the Egyptian’s trophy cabinet is big enough for a few more.

The forward’s phenomenal efforts this season have been recognised with a nomination for August’s Player of the Month.

However, Salah is facing stiff competition for this award from some big names who have also taken the season by storm so far.

Luis Diaz contract situation revealed

Despite recent reports, it has now been revealed that Liverpool are not looking to open contract negotiations with Luis Diaz at this time.

It was reported on Wednesday by This Is Anfield that Diaz was in line for a new contract after his impressive start to the season.

The Colombian has started all three league games under Arne Slot, finding the back of the net three times and also providing one assist, meaning he is quickly asserting himself as one of the new manager’s most important players.

Diaz has already broken records this season and, after a summer full of interest from abroad, it is easy to see why some Liverpool supporters may want the 27-year-old tied down with a new contract.

It has now been reported by Paul Gorst, of the Liverpool ECHO, that claims that a new contract for Diaz is imminent are “wide of the mark”.

Slot nominated for Manager of the Month

After an impressive start to life at Liverpool, Arne Slot has been nominated for the Premier League Manager of the Month award.

Arne Slot

Liverpool’s previous manager Jürgen Klopp won the award 10 times and was also the first manager to win the award five times in a single season.

Now, after wins against Ipswich Town and Brentford, Arne Slot has been nominated for the August manager of the month award.

Slot is one of four nominees and is up against Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola, Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta and Brighton’s Fabian Hurzeler in a fan vote.

Both Guardiola and Arteta are experienced Premier League managers, but Slot and Hurzeler have been nominated after their first month managing in English football.

Romano gives Salah contract update

Mohamed Salah has enjoyed an electrifying start to the season, scoring three goals and providing three assists in Liverpool’s first three games, but the Egyptian King has less than a year left on his contract.

Mohamed Salah

After another stunning performance against Manchester United at Old Trafford, in which Salah was involved in all three goals, the 32-year-old revealed that he hadn’t had any contact with the club over a new deal.

As well as Salah, Liverpool’s captain Virgil van Dijk and vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold are also out of contract at the end of this season, and Arne Slot has been very reserved with what he’s willing to share about the trio’s contract situations.

Salah has faced some backlash for his comments after the Old Trafford victory but he has not let his contract situation affect his on-pitch performance and he has been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month for August.
