Lionel Messi: The invisible influence on social media of a legend

In the year since Lionel Messi left Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), the club has seen a significant drop in social media fans, reaching more than 2.7 million, showing the far-reaching influence of this football icon.

In the world of sports, Lionel Messi is not only a great player but also a cultural phenomenon with a huge fan base. His time at PSG was not as expected, but his influence is still present, even after he left. Messi’s absence not only causes a professional loss but also a significant impact on the club’s social media.

Immediately after Messi left PSG, the club lost 1 million followers on Instagram, 500,000 on TikTok and 750,000 on X, showing his popularity. Over the course of a year, PSG became the club that lost the most followers in the world, with a total of 2.7 million.

Despite winning Ligue 1 and the French Super Cup, Messi never felt completely comfortable at PSG, and his relationship with the board, including president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and coach Christophe Galtier, also became strained.

In contrast to PSG, Messi’s new team, Inter Miami, has seen a significant increase in followers, reaching 1.5 million. The presence of “El Pulga” has helped the pink club attract global attention.

Since leaving Paris, Messi has enjoyed success at Inter Miami, helping the team win the Leagues Cup and dominate the top of MLS. At the same time, he also recently won the Copa America 2024 with the Argentina national team for the second consecutive time, further cementing his legendary status.
