Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson returns as the demigod Maui in an inspiring new teaser for the animated movie Moana 2.
Auli’i Cravalho is also back as the title character, who embarks on an epic voyage across the seas after receiving ‘a call from the ancestors.’
Moana resolves ‘to sail to new skies and reconnect our people across the entire ocean’ and finds herself swept up in a series of rollicking adventures.
She makes her journey in the company of old friends, including her pets Hei Hei The Rooster (Alan Tudyk) and the pot-belly pig Pua.
But the one who appears to surprise her the most is Maui, the mischievous shapeshifter, who materializes suddenly on Moana’s boat when least expected.

As Moana’s vessel – a traditional Polynesian boat called a wa’a kaulua – glides gently across the water, she receives a sudden jolt.
A grinning shark bursts out from the surface of the ocean, then briefly transforms into a bird in midair before turning into Maui’s human form.
Musclebound and heavily tattooed just like The Rock, Maui alights on the surface of the wa’a kaulua, leaving Moana shocked and delighted.
Pua and Hei Hei are perhaps less excited to see him, as he picks them both up and refers to them as a ‘boat snack’ of ‘bacon and eggs.’
At the beginning of the teaser, Moana arrives on the shore and blows a long, clear note through a conch, setting the stage for a series of premonitions.
