However, LeBron James’ peak playing time will soon end, as he will turn 40 in December 2024. The Los Angeles Lakers superstar has even hinted at the possibility of retiring after the 2025/26 season ends.

What will LeBron James do after retirement?
There are many paths for LeBron James after his illustrious playing career ends. Many believe he could become a coach, an analyst, or even a politician in the future.
However, according to Maverick Carter, LeBron James’ close friend and business partner, the 1984-born superstar has plans to own an NBA club. Recently, there has been information that LeBron James will become a shareholder of a new NBA team, based in Las Vegas.
“LeBron James is determined to own an NBA club. But he’s still playing and I don’t know how long he’ll play. A few years ago, I thought he had decided to retire, but now people still see LeBron James with a gray beard standing on the court, to prove to the young players his own perseverance,” Maverick Carter shared.
What does LeBron James need to do to own an NBA team?
Active players are not allowed to own shares in an NBA club, so LeBron James would have to retire before he could become the owner of a club in the world’s most prestigious basketball league.
Initial estimates suggest that the Las Vegas basketball team would cost investors around $4-5 billion, or even $7 billion. LeBron James is currently worth $1.2 billion, and he will certainly have to call on potential investors if he is determined to pursue this project.

Does LeBron James own shares in other sports teams?
LeBron James currently owns 2% of Liverpool in the Premier League. He bought the shares in 2011 for $6 million. According to Forbes’ 2023 assessment, Liverpool’s value is around $5.23 billion, making LeBron James’ investment in The Kop currently worth nearly $106 million.
