The Kansas City Chiefs advanced to their seventh consecutive AFC Championship Game after a 23-14 victory over the Houston Texans. Despite a moderate performance by Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce delivered a historic game with seven catches, 117 yards, and a touchdown. The Chiefs now anticipate the winner of the Buffalo Bills vs. Baltimore Ravens matchup for the championship game.

The Kansas City Chiefs are heading to their seventh consecutive AFC Championship Game after a solid 23-14 victory over the Houston Texans in the Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs. Despite Patrick Mahomes not having his best outing of the season, the Chiefs’ offense showed its strength, with tight end Travis Kelce delivering a historic performance.

Patrick Mahomes completed 16-of-25 passes for 177 yards and one touchdown, but it was Kelce who stole the spotlight. With a stellar performance, Travis Kelce recorded seven catches for 117 yards and a touchdown, continuing his legacy as one of the NFL’s premier postseason performers.

Kelce’s accomplishment wasn’t just limited to another dominant playoff performance; his efforts solidified his place in history. With this game, he surpassed legendary wide receiver Jerry Rice for the most 100+ yard receiving games in NFL postseason history, recording his ninth such game. Additionally, Kelce passed the 2,000-yard mark in career postseason receiving yards, further cementing his status as one of the most consistent and reliable players in the playoffs.

Following the game, Mahomes praised Kelce’s relentless work ethic and his ability to perform when it matters most. “You know 87 was gonna show up whenever it’s a big time moment and he did that,” Mahomes said, referencing Kelce’s iconic jersey number. “Everybody was asking, where’s Travis Kelce at? I think he showed the world where he’s at.”

Mahomes continued to highlight Kelce’s ability to keep his composure under pressure: “He doesn’t let the moment be bigger than what it is. He just goes out there and executes at a high level just like he does in a regular-season game. He just does that with a little bit higher intensity.”

Kelce himself reflected on his performance, saying, “It just felt good to finally make a guy miss this year,” alluding to his journey overcoming early-season struggles and criticisms regarding his slow start. At 35 years old, Kelce had faced doubts over his ability to maintain a dominant role in the Chiefs’ offense. His performance on Saturday was a loud reminder that, when the stakes are highest, Kelce still has what it takes to lead his team.

As the Chiefs gear up for the AFC Championship, they await the winner of the Buffalo Bills vs. Baltimore Ravens matchup. The highly anticipated game will take place on Sunday, Jan. 26, at 6:30 p.m. ET. With Kelce’s impressive play and Mahomes’ leadership, the Chiefs will be eager to take the next step toward another Super Bowl appearance.
