If you’re one of the many Swifties disappointed to have missed out on the notoriously difficult-to-bag tickets for the singer’s Eras Tour, you’re in luck: a film is being made of the event.

The Eras Tour is Taylor Swift’s sixth to date, and described as a musical journey through all her different eras and 10 studio albums, from country to pop. It’s her biggest tour yet and has been a sell-out across the USA; next year, she’ll be taking it worldwide. The Wall Street Journal described it as one of the most expensive and “technically ambitious” productions of the 21st century, and the outfits Swift has worn on stage – by designers including Roberto Cavalli, Oscar de la Renta and Ashish – complement all the different aesthetics of her albums.

Here’s what we know so far about the film, from the trailer to the release date…

What will Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour cover?

The film will give fans the chance to experience Swift’s tour even if they haven’t managed to score tickets. The filming for the movie took place during three shows at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, and the result documents the experience – which, at three hours and 15 minutes long and comprising 44 songs grouped into 10 acts, is Swift’s longest show to date.

Is there a trailer yet?

A sneak-peek of the film has been released, which shows Swift performing on stage to thousands of cheering fans. “This has been the most extraordinary experience of my entire life,” she says as her hit song, Cruel Summer’, plays in the background.

When will Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour be released?

The film will be out in cinemas in the US only on 13 October. The date is significant, as Swift has spoken many times about 13 being her lucky number: “I was born on the 13th, I turned 13 on Friday the 13th, my first album went gold in 13 weeks,” she said in an interview. “Also, my first song that ever went number one, it had a 13 second intro, I didn’t even do that on purpose!”

For global release, there have not been any announcements, so we’ll have to wait and see when the film is available to watch elsewhere. As yet, there isn’t any information on whether the film will be available to stream at home.

What can I watch in the meantime?

If you just can’t wait, Swift’s documentary, Miss Americana, is available now on Netflix. Directed by Lana Wilson and released in 2020, it focuses on Swift’s personal life, and gives a behind-the-scenes glimpse into her musical career.
