Former Rangers closer Kirby Yates agrees to deal with Los Angeles Dodgers, report says

Kirby Yates will have a new baseball home in 2025.

The All-Star closer last season for the Texas Rangers has agreed to a deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale on Tuesday.

Yates, who converted 33 of 34 save attempts, posted a 1.17 ERA in 2024. He gave the back of the Rangers bullpen the stability it lacked during the 2023 regular season, but his production seemingly increased his value too far past the bargain contract Texas signed him for last offseason to bring him back.

In addition of re-signing Nathan Eovaldi to keep the starting rotation strong, Texas has made some moves in the bullpen this offseason bringing in names such as Chris Martin, Shawn Armstrong, Jacob Webb, Hoby Milner and Robert Garcia.

But for all the targeted moves the Rangers have made, they still haven’t added anybody with significant ninth-inning experience. The five relievers the Rangers have added combined for five saves last year. If you want to go 15 deep on the Rangers’ current bullpen options, there are 32 career saves.
