Former Raiders DE Announces Retirement From NFL

After seven seasons playing in the NFL, veteran defensive lineman Isaac Rochell has announced his retirement from football in a Sunday Instagram post. The former Notre Dame standout has most recently played for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022 and 2023 but didn’t play this season.

He originally came into the NFL as a seventh-round pick of the Los Angeles Chargers. He spent some time with the Indianapolis Colts and Cleveland Browns, as well. His best stint was his first four years with the Chargers as he compiled every one of his 9.5 career sacks during that run.

Rochell is only 29 so he possibly could’ve played longer but it was proving difficult to find a team to stick around with.

“A degree from Notre Dame, lifelong friendships, a platform to share my voice, and countless memories—these are just a few of the gifts football has given me,” Rochell wrote on Instagram. “I started playing in 6th grade, and I still remember crying before every practice—crazy how things change. My journey ended with moments I’ll never forget, surrounded by teammates who became family.”

Even though he didn’t see much playing time in recent years, seven years is a long time to stick around in the NFL and far longer than the average player.
