First-time mom Lily Collins took to Instagram on Friday, January 31 to share the first look at her baby girl with husband Charlie McDowell. The singular photo shows what is probably Collins’ arm reaching out to touch the baby, who is nestled in a basket with her name — Tove — embroidered in gold on the accompanying blanket.
“Welcome to the center of our world Tove Jane McDowell,” Collins wrote in the caption. “Words will never express our endless gratitude for our incredible surrogate and everyone who helped us along the way. We love you to the moon and back again…”

Baby Tove, who was born a few days prior in California, was kept a complete secret during the surrogacy. She is the first child for the Emily in Paris star, 35, and her writer/director husband, 41. The couple have been married for more than three years and both come from Hollywood royalty — Collins is the daughter of rocker Phil Collins, and McDowell is the son of actors Malcolm McDowell and Mary Steenburgen and stepson to Ted Danson.
Collins’ fans immediately took to the comments to congratulate the star on her first child. To those who made negative comments about using surrogacy, McDowell, who was tagged in the post, responded, “It’s ok to not be an expert on surrogacy. It’s ok to not know why someone might need a surrogate to have a child.” At the end of his message, which also thanked fans for their kind messages, he quipped, “That’s all for now because she just pooped and I need to change her diaper.”
The first-time dad is most known for directing episodes of the HBO hit Silicon Valley and the Netflix films The Discovery, which stars Rooney Mara and Robert Redford, and Windfall, starring his wife. The two met on the set of the movie Gilded Rage.
