Fans of a romance fantasy novel about dragon riders are preparing to queue at shops for the midnight release of the “most exciting book since Harry Potter”.
Onyx Storm, to be released on Tuesday, marks the third instalment of the five-part Empyrean series by viral “romantasy” author Rebecca Yarros.
Ahead of its publication, fans around the country have signed up to attend release parties at book stores where they will wear fancy dress, take part in dragon-themed quizzes and get their hands on a copy of the book at midnight.
“This level of fan devotion hasn’t been seen since the days of Harry Potter,” Rebekah West, the editorial director of the Little, Brown Book Group’s Piaktus imprint, told The Telegraph.
Ms West, Yarros’s UK publisher and the person in charge of initially commissioning the series, continued: “Onyx Storm is set to smash UK publisher records – it will be the biggest pre-ordered title for Little Brown since 2016, when it published Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”.
Onyx Storm, which was listed on bestseller charts as early as August last year as a result of pre-orders, will chronicle the continuation of protagonist Violet Sorrengail’s story as a dragon rider in a fictional war college. Central to all the novels has been her romance with fellow rider Xaden Riorson.
