What has football taught you about life?

I reckon that football, just like any other sport, has the same rules as life. It taught me that I could reach my objectives with hard work, perseverance and determination. It is possible to make your dreams come true if you are ready to commit yourself fully to them.

What drives and motivates you on and off the pitch?

Striving for excellence is my daily mantra and I always aim to surpass the goals that I have already achieved. I want to be the best in what I do, be respectful to everyone around me and lead by example—a man that football-loving children can look up to.

Based on your impressive career so far, what advice would you share with aspiring players?

Love the game. It is extremely crucial to train hard and stay focused on achieving your aspirations. Never give up and keep your feet firm on the ground. You might go through injury, obstacle or rejection but trust me, it will get better.

Having seen so much of the world, what do you think is special about Singapore in particular?

Definitely her modernity and cleanliness. Everyone is so warm and friendly, and I’m always awed by all the skyscrapers!

What is your go-to anthem to sing in the shower?

At the moment, I’m really into hip-hop and reggaeton.

How do you define an attractive woman?

She needs to have a mixture of beauty, good taste and a positive spirit. To top that off, a good sense of humour and a carefree attitude are always a bonus too.

Describe your perfect off day.

Simply waking up and being with my son. I enjoy taking him to school and spending some quality time with my family after.

If you weren’t a footballer, what would you be?

My dream was always to play football professionally since young and I have to say that I’m truly contented that I get to realised that one, true ambition I had. I don’t know what else I’d be, but I’m sure life will open up many more doors when my football career is eventually over. There are still many seasons ahead for me and till then, I shall not think too much about it.

What’s next in the pipeline for you?

I like new challenges and projects, so I might expand beyond the clothing and grooming lines that I have now. I’m excited for what the future holds, you’ll have to wait and see!
