Everyone knows Avril Lavigne from the 2000s era. The pop-punk singer with hits such as “Girlfriend” and “Sk8r Boi” which was huge for young girls back in the day. Back in 2003, a theory came into play about how Avril Lavigne had died and been replaced by a doppelgänger named Melissa.
Every now and then it will resurface, especially on Twitter since people love to do long threads on there. If you haven’t actually heard of this conspiracy theory it’s actually super interesting and very believable. By the end, you might not really know what to believe anymore.
The theory started from a Brazilian fan blog where it first stated that after Lavigne’s album “Let it Go” in 2002, Lavigne went from being this emo punk girl to a mainstream pop girl. From here is when the theory that she died started because many fans thought she started to downfall from her fame so much that she hired a look-alike to take her place in front of paparazzi.
Later, her grandfather passed away and instead of announcing her death her record label decided to continue making money and use Melissa as a replacement. Below are a few of the differences that many fans noticed which sparked the conspiracy theory even more. Lavigne released “The Best Damn Thing” album in 2007 and fans noticed differences in the handwriting, eye shape, punctuation, word use, and even freckles.
