Dwayne Johnson Announces Movie Adaptation Of Classic Monster Truck Rally

As the actor/producer begins expanding his foothold at Disney, Dwayne Johnson has revealed a Monster Jam adaptation is in the works. The upcoming movie is set to be a live adaptation of the classic monster truck rally, which initially began in 1992, involving professional monster truck drivers fiercely competing against each other in freestyle competitions as well as regular races. Though a number of Monster Jam video games have been released, and the sport itself has been seen with the likes of Paramount’s Monster Trucks, no actual adaptation of the event has been made thus far.

Now, at the recent D23 Entertainment Showcase where Screen Rant was in attendance, Dwayne Johnson announced that he was developing a Monster Jam movie alongside Disney. The forthcoming adaptation is set to be made from the point of view of iconic trucks and their eccentric behaviors. This marks one of multiple projects Johnson is working on with Disney, including both Moana 2 and a live-action Moana remake.

Dwayne Johnson’s Forthcoming Adaptation Could Positively Impact The Monster Jam Franchise

Seven Bucks Production, the TV and film content label founded by Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia in 2012, has signed a deal with The Walt Disney Company to develop films for theaters and streaming platforms. The forthcoming Monster Jam live adaptation is set to be the first official collaboration between the two companies.

This, however, would not be the first attempt at making a Monster Jam movie. Back in 2003, the motorsport event collaborated with the media company Clear Channel to create a live-action film, but the project never saw the light of day. Seeing as this could possibly be the first project following Johnson’s deal with Disney, there’s a high chance that this adaptation will come to fruition. Also, considering that Johnson is a big name, his involvement in the project will likely draw a lot of attention to the movie and, by extension, the entire Monster Jam franchise.

Johnson has previously had dalliances with monster trucks and the Monster Jam franchise in particular. The famous actor had a brief experience with the sport during his early wrestling days and, more recently, the Monster Jam tour was featured in his HBO series Ballers. Johnson, however, remains one of the most in-demand actors at the moment. With a slew of upcoming projects like the A24 sports drama The Smashing Machine and the final installment of the Fast and Furious franchise in the works, it’ll be interesting to see how he fits this exciting project into his busy schedule.
